Emergency General Meeting Wednesday 26 October 1pm
Our national ballot result was brilliant and historic! On a turnout of 57%, 81% of UCU members voted for strike action and 88% for action short of a strike. UCU is the first education sector union to win a national ballot since the introduction of the anti-union laws in 2016.
All our hard work has paid off. Now we need to discuss the next steps so we can feed your views to UCU.
We’re therefore holding an emergency all members meeting Wednesday, 26 October at 1:00pm. Please make every effort to attend as this will be a hugely important discussion. The Zoom invitation has been emailed to members.
To ensure these meetings run efficiently and to encourage as many members as possible to contribute, we’ve decided to introduce the following house rules:
1. Meetings will open on the hour, and will last a maximum of 45 minutes, formally starting at 5 mins after the hour and ending 10 minutes before it.
2. All contributions from officers and members will be limited to 3 minutes. If required at 3 minutes, contributors will be asked to wind up within 1 minute.
3. All reports to branch meetings from officers will be kept to one officer only.
We hope these rules will help make meetings as member-focused as possible. In particular, we’d encourage members who don’t normally contribute to do so.
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow at 1:00pm!
In solidarity
