VC’s announcement 23 June and staff briefings

While we are still in the consultation process for redundancies in Creative Arts, Humanities, Education, Health, and our UNISON colleagues deal with redundancies in Estates, we are concerned that staff across the University now face the sudden news that the University seeks to cut up to 200 jobs through voluntary severance to save £20m.

Please note that the RTUs were not ‘consulted’ on the proposals, as may have been claimed at the VC’s briefing. We were only informed of basic details on Monday afternoon, and have not been given any financial details. We are gathering more information from the School staff briefings today. We have requested the financial costings and justification from management about why this sudden cut of £20m is necessary, and will update members in due course once we have more information.

Members please speak with your School reps if you have any concerns. We are currently deciding on a suitable day to hold an all members’ meeting about the situation and will update in due course.
